Inspired by a creature from the deep, this shawl pattern includes tips and instructions to use a bulky thread plied yarn to create a squishy shawl! Designed with hand spun yarn in mind, this shawl is very forgiving of gauge and is knit in a way that uses all your yarn without having to estimate or rip back to finish your work.

Hand Spun Yarn Details:

  • 6-8 ounces of fiber, spun thick and thin into two skeins of 3-4 oz (85-113 g) each.
  • Thread ply these two skeins separately and add fun effects like coils and beads or sequins. Pearls would look amazing!
  • Approximately 60 yards (55 m) each skein or 120 yards (109 m) total.
  • Yarn weight is approx 7 wraps per inch.

Needles and Notions:

  • Straight knitting needles US 15 (10 mm)
  • One stitch marker
  • Darning needle


  • Gauge is not essential for this project.
  • Finished gauge as pictured is 10 st X 14 rows / 4 inches (10cm)
